Measles is on the rise in the United States. The number of reported cases in the past six months is the highest it's been since 1996. And while the disease isn't serious for most kids, it can prove fatal for a small percentage of children.
Protect your kids from preventable diseases—keep their vaccinations up to date. If you have a baby or toddler, you're probably very conscious of this, but did you know there are several vaccines your adolescents and teens should get, as well? Make sure they stay on track, with the Centers for Disease Control's downloadable Child and Adolescent Immunization Schedules.

Kentucky and Mississippi elect governors this November, and San Francisco, Indianapolis, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, and Salt Lake City elect mayors. The presidential primaries start in a few months. If you plan to vote in any of these elections (or many other local ones) and have not registered to vote yet, don't wait too long. Most states require that you register at least 28-30 days in advance.
Registering is easy. Just download the National Mail Voter Registration Form—available in English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tagalog and Vietnamese—read the instructions, complete the one-page form, and mail it in. You can also use the form to update your information, if you've moved or changed your name.
The fall semester starts in weeks. If school expenses are weighing on your mind, remember that Uncle Sam is the biggest single provider of student aid. That includes grants, work-study programs, and low-interest loans for those who qualify, whether for college or for a technical, career, or trade school.
For all federal student aid, as well as for many state, regional, and private aid programs, completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid is the way to begin. Visit Student Aid on the Web to get started.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) have teamed up to recognize the best in energy-efficient appliances. These top-rated products will stand out from other Energy Star appliances with a new, "Most Efficient" label. The designation will not only help consumers save money and reduce the amount of pollution they generate, but should also spur manufacturers to be innovative and produce the most energy-efficient appliances they can.
DOE and EPA have identified Most Efficient 2011 products among televisions, clothes washers, and heating and cooling equipment. Refrigerators are coming soon. More product categories will be added in 2012.
