Web Search Sub–Council
Our Goal
Our goal is to help the government web and IT communities follow best practices for search across all types of government information, including government websites, technical reports, datasets, social media, and multimedia collections. We also promote understanding and use of best practices to improve the visibility of government information on commercial web search engines.
What We Do
Activities include:
- Maintain the "Search Engines" section of this website (Webcontent.gov)
- Share strategies for using search for websites, information collections, multimedia, and other government information resources.
- Develop and encourage the use of best practices for using search tools and services for government.
- Participate in an online discussion forum open to all government employees who are interested in recent developments in search engine techniques and technologies.
- Investigate commercial and open–source search engine features and services if they appear to be important candidates for adoption.
- Help conduct (or recruit participants for) usability studies for search engine features.
