Who We Are
The Usability, Design, and Accessibility Task Group of the Federal Web Managers Council, is an interagency group of senior government web managers and usability specialists working to improve government websites.
Our Goal
Our goal is to support the use of user-centered design (UCD) principles and methods to improve government websites and web applications.
What We Do
The Usability Task Group meets monthly to advocate usability practices and disseminate information of interest to and from the government community. Current activities include:
- Enhance Usability.gov, the government’s official website for usability best practices, with templates, guidelines, and other usability resources
- Promote the Research-Based Usability and Web Design Guidelines
- Publicize usability resources such as the Guidelines book, the Usability Testing Environment (UTE) Tool, and Usability.gov
- Survey government web managers and usability specialists on current practices
- Provide usability training for government web managers, usability specialists, and project managers through Web Manager University and other programs
- Educate senior management to the benefits and return-on-investment of usability methods

If you’re a federal, state, or local government employee interested in these activities, please join us! Note that the task group is limited to government employees and does not include contractors or other non-government individuals.
