User Experience Sub-Council

Who We Are

The User Experience Sub–Council (UXSC) of the Federal Web Managers Council, is an interagency group of senior government web managers and usability specialists working to improve government websites.

Our Goal

Our goal is to support the use of user-centered design (UCD) principles and methods to improve government websites and web applications and enhance service to citizens.

What We Do

The User Experience Sub-Council monthly to advocate usability practices and share information of interest to the government community. We meet, usually by way of conference call or webinar, on the second Tuesday of each month at 2:30 pm ET.

Current activities include:

  • Developing common website design templates and resources to increase the usability and efficiency of government services
  • Sharing and networking on Forum.Webcontent.gov our social media forum
  • Collaborating with government leaders to develop user experience-related policies that improve service to customers and increase transparency and collaboration
  • Providing usability training for government web managers, usability specialists, and project managers through Web Manager University and other programs
  • Sharing and publicizing common usability resources such as the Guidelines book, the Usability Testing Environment (UTE) Tool, and Usability.gov
Educating and demonstrating to senior management to the benefits and return–on–investment of usability methods

Who Can Join

If you’re a federal, state, or local government employee interested in these activities, please join us. The working group of the UX Sub–Council is composed of government employees only; the interest group of the UX Sub–Council is open to government contractors as well. Many of our presentations are open to government and non-government participants.
