Scribd is the largest online community for finding, viewing and reading written materials and publications -- they have more than 65+ million people a month reading material on Scribd.com (as of June 2009, they're the 60th biggest site in the U.S.).  Publishers, Authors, Universities and Organizations are uploading Books, Magazines, Newsletters, and Research to get more exposure for their written works.  http://www.scribd.com/

Importantly, Scribd displays publications with iPaper -- a document format built for the Internet. Like a YouTube video, iPaper documents are Flash widgets that can be embedded in existing web pages -- a very viral feature which increases the exposure of written materials online.  The publications can be embedded on any website like Barack Obama did on his blog during his campaign:  http://my.barackobama.com/page/community/post/stateupdates/gG5zC4

Mike McGuinness will be discussing strategies about how Scribd.com and iPaper can be leveraged by government organizations to help citizens  find  and  view  relevant documents and publications online. With the new increased demand for government transparency and accessibility, Scribd can help government organizations engage with online readers and facilitate discoverability and "viral sharing" of interesting written materials.

About the Presenter

As Vice President of Business Development at Scribd, Mike is responsible for forging content and distribution relationships across a broad set of verticals.  Representative partners include large publishers like Simon & Schuster & Random House; newspapers such as The New York Times; global organizations like World Economic Forum and IBM; and the Barack Obama Presidential Campaign Team.

Prior to Scribd, Mike has accumulated over 15 years experience in building customer-driven organizations, including founding a company enabling cash-payment for online purchases, and has held various management positions at Hewlett-Packard and Silicon Valley startups.

Mike holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, and a BSE from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania .
