Getting ready to travel abroad in 2020? Before you book flights, look for attractions, and explore places to eat during your trip, be sure you have a passport. It’s not a complicated process to get one. But it can take 6-8 weeks, so it’s important to apply for your passport as soon as possible.  If you wait too long, you may not be able to get one in time or you could pay higher fees to expedite the process.

To make it easier for you to get a passport, the State Department is hosting special passport fairs across the country during Passport Month this September. These events are designed for first-time applicants and those applying for children using a DS-11 form.

Every week, the State Department adds new events at passport offices, community centers, and other locations. Can’t find a fair near you? Find your closest passport acceptance facility and schedule an appointment 6 to 8 weeks before your trip. Some facilities are also open on weekends.

If you need a passport in three weeks or less, you’ll need an expedited process. To find out where to go and what additional fees you’ll pay, follow the steps to get a passport quickly.
