Identify and complain about rental housing discrimination

Learn where to complain about discrimination if you are trying to rent housing.

Housing discrimination happens when a housing provider or lending institution gets in the way of a person renting a place to live because of their:

  • Race or color
  • National origin
  • Religion
  • Sex (gender, gender identity, or sexual orientation)
  • Family status (such as having children)
  • Disability

File a housing discrimination complaint

Submit a housing complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) if you think you have experienced housing discrimination.
